Siobhan and Tom’s Story

FIrst there were two… a beautiful day with the ceremony at Kensington and Chelsea Register Office in Chelsea Old Town Hall.  Siobhan was heavily pregnant which made the wedding day even more special!  The reception was held at home with close family and friends.

and then, a year later I met with Siobhan and Tom who introduced me to their beautiful son!  We did a family portrait shoot in Richmond Park which is one of my favourite photography locations.  What a gorgeous family!

Photo retouching gone mad?

I came across this advert for a piece of software called Portrait Professional. In my view the girl looks perfectly lovely before all the retouching. As a portrait photographer I often do skin retouching but I find this level of change a little insulting to the model. What’s wrong with freckles? I think she looks more beautiful with them. Is it just me?

On the upside, I do use Portrait Professional and find it a useful tool for adding catchlights to eyes and smoothing complexions – just not to this extent!

I would love to hear your comments….

I agree whole heartedly Helen, the freckles look gorgeous. I shudder each time I come across an advert for that software!

I too have seen this ad and I have downloaded the free trial a couple of times ( different versions ) I use it on a trial image then realise why I don’t like it. The final image is so different that they become nearly unrecognisable. I will reduce wrinkles and remove blemishes and give the client a realistic shot unless it’s a fashion shot where I like the edit ( it’s therapeutic ).
If you engage with your client the edit is done with a light touch and done with sympathy – PP doesn’t know or care about the client it’s a piece of software
Mind you I have come across a studio that uses PP exclusively and just churns them out – not for me

Plus the freckles look absolutely great on your model

Bridal Preparations at The Haymarket Hotel, London

Congratulations to my lovely friend Jane who got married in March at The Haymarket Hotel in London.  It is one of my favourite wedding venues; romantic, beautiful, and incredibly atmospheric. These are a few photographs taken of the bride and bridesmaids and mother-of-the-bride during the bridal preparations. Retouching was done using Adobe Lightroom 4, Adobe Photoshop CS5 with a number of actions purchased from Jeff Ascough.

Joanna and Stuart’s Wedding at Chelsea Old Town Hall with Chelsea Pensioners

Last week I had the pleasure of photographing Joanna and Stuart’s wedding at Kensington and Chelsea Registry Office.  There were five of us including the bride and groom, who invited two Chelsea Pensioners (Walter and Godfrey) to be their witnesses.

The weather was lovely and Joanna turned up carrying a lovely tied bouquet of roses picked in her garden.  It was a beautiful, intimate and joyful ceremony which was very moving and Walter and Godfrey made fantastic witnesses!

Congratulations, Joanna and Stuart and thank you for sharing your day with me!

Rahul’s Birthday Album

One of the wonderful things about last year was meeting Rahul and his partner Damian.  On October 15th Rahul had the ultimate party to celebrate his 40th birthday.  It was everything the perfect party should be;  great food, brilliant djs, a beautiful and spectacular venue and above all three hundred and fifty of Rahul’s wonderful friends who are a testament to what a great person Rahul is. It really was the party to end all birthday parties!  After some searching the party was held at the incredible St. Pancras Renaissance London Hotel.  If you haven’t been there it is a must.  Everything about it is amazing.  I must stay there one day…. which isn’t a problem if there is a party at the same time as your stay as a silent disco took over at midnight.  If you have never been to one it is really quite cool and certainly amusing.  Lots of people throwing shapes to different tunes and you couldn’t hear a sound!  If I had a mean streak I would’ve started shooting video but my better nature prevailed:-)

Here are some pictures of Rahul’s storybook album.  It is an A3 100 page high quality leather bound album which totally captures the beauty of the event. You can also see the mini guest books.

Thank you again, Rahul, for a beautiful evening.  It was lovely meeting your friends and the party was a night we shall all remember. x
